The Hollywood Primary

The Hollywood Primary: In the late seventies, Committee player Peter Elbling convened his improvisor friends to stage a late night cabaret at the Blossom Room at the Roosevelt Hotel in LA. Though little of its material, which often tilted toward vicious political satire, was improvised, as emcee, producer, and director Elbling relied on the improvisational chops of the ensemble to carry it through. The troupe featured a changing roster of players who often did double duty as the show’s band. Michael Dare recently posted this amazing image, which features a few Committee folk. From left to right: Beans Morocco (Dan Barrows), Garry Goodrow, Joe Romano, Paul Willson (violin), and Gerrit Graham. Also present but not picture was Murphy Dunne on the keyboard.
